Half correct. It's optimizing, but not the exact same compiler as the
pro version. It hasn't got all of the new fanciness that's new for VC
2005. In Microsofts' own words:
Does Visual C++ 2005 Express Edition include the "optimizing compiler"
Yes, Visual C++ 2005 Express Edition includes the same core optimizing
compiler that will be included with all other Visual Studio 2005
editions. It should be noted that some new expanded optimization
features, including Profile Guided Optimizations, will be available only
in the Professional and above editions of Visual Studio 2005.
Still, it's probably just as good as the pro version of VC 2003, and
most probably better than the one from VC6.
