Lets think global guys. Having just come back from an International Conference on Globalisation iand Localisation in Taiwan - I can fully endorse that.
It was clear to me that focus, collaboration and fit - is what can make the difference. Contrary to what we have been afraid of with Globalisation - I believe - there is a big opportunity for NZ businesses to pick up the gauntlet in the Globalisation dilemma . Many European/Asian businesses are very good at hi tec/heavy industry solutions. BUT - They realise that they have a much harder road to go - now that Globalisation is making competition more fierce and labour more expensive. NZrs have always been good at putting in the extra nine yards to identify a specific need and provide a closer fit. We have the background and the ability to think around the edges which many large European and Asian businesses are not fleet of foot to do. I am now going to be specifically focusing my own business on: Collaborating with other NZ businesses to provide a wide range of business services which give NZ Businesses an edge - competing in a Global Market. - Support with Language barriers. - Support with Trade Documentation - Support with Proposals and Presentation. - Support with Intranets which enable a better flow of market opportunity and matching capabilities. One of the big opportunities I have brought back with me is support work for the Olympic Games. Anyone keen to Collaborate on that - I look forward to hearing from you. Cheers Alice. The conversion of industry/ communications is also opening the door for NZ wide outsourcing of services. But having worked in Wellington most of my life I would suggest that the old fossels in control will not change the way things are done overnight! Your suggestion Viki of a presence/formal trade presentation would be ,I feel the best option as it means Canterbury can play on the same political feild. www.futurehome.co.nz www.smarthome.co.nz Eric ----- Original Message ----- From: "Vicki Hyde" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Canterbury Software Email Forum" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Tuesday, October 21, 2003 9:49 AM Subject: [csforum] trade mission to Wellington > Latest GETS posting: > > "ALAC seeks to identify and shortlist suitably qualified New Zealand > companies who have experience in website restructure and design. > > "Companies that have a Wellington presence are invited to register their > interest by providing a maximum two page summary giving the following > information..." > > Looks like we really should mount a formal trade mission to Wellington to > the various government and quasi-givernment bodies to convince them that > if they can purchase their hardware/software products from sources outside > Wellington (outside the country!), then they should also be able to do it > with services.... > > Given that many of us service clients internationally, it's frustrating to > meet this constant wall in the Wellington public service that you have to > be local to be considered. > > Many NZTE needs to produce a beachhead office there!
