I don't see how this could be wrong.
Server owners are kicking people based on their country, on their pings,
on their rates, so why not on their motd settings? If one server is self
supported and the owner doesn't want non-supporting players to play,
it's completely up to the owner to do that.
Plus, the player is free to choose any other servers.
(I might be wrong here, but i don't remember reading a rule forbidding this)
