I'm hand coding all that I do. I'm not saying I know everything (far from it), but with what I do I know why I'm doing it. First off, hand coding provides a lot cleaner coding than any WYSIWYG editor will give you. Second, I think the main problems with users using WYSIWYG editors is that they don't really know what's going on behind the scenes. If a problem turns up and the WYSIWYG for some reason doesn't or can't solve it, they're at a loss of how to solve it. I think it's important to know why something is why it is. The guy at the job interview could've probably been a bit more tactical, but I see his point.
