Guess that's what it comes down to when choosing hasLayout triggers or other hacks for old IE. I still prefer "the phony stylesheet for IE/win"[1] solution that I have used for years for shoveling corrective measures into IE7 and older. It is probably the safest hack for those old versions, and I don't find it particularly problematic that both the loading of the extra stylesheet and some of its content makes old IE slow down a bit either. It gets the job done... :-)
