/me looks at BeJUG... Let's start building a good community, start recruiting Java developers from schools, universities, companies. Offer a nice and friendly soft environment that newbies won't be hurt and put off. Not just the ubergeeks, but the normal IT developer.
So we need to have a recruitment drive, then start meeting regularly. At least once every two months, with well-organised events. Perhaps we could invite speakers from around the world to come down and speak to us. This only works if we have a good solid community that will support and actually come to the event. They will only come to the events if the events are well organised. The payoff for the person who brings about this vision will be great. You will become famous in the Java sphere around the world, and will be able to command better work opportunities. You will be able to shape the future of Java and have credibility.
