well, govt, SITA et al, seem committed to opensource as the way forward these failures are usually project management ones innit - didn't these donks do any scalability testing?! looks like the rushed it into production to meet deadlines still it would be interesting to know the software and hardware setup - eg. what size clusters being used for database and application server (which i guess is jboss?) - probably these weren't spec'ed, configured and tested properly - maybe the database wasn't optimised sufficiently? Hopefully there'll be some techie insider whistle blowers who will come out and explain the frak up the project management and methodology side, would make a great case study to learn from, for large software development projects, to avoid such disasters in future having said that, common classical errors were probably repeated eg. as discussed in books like Surviving OO Projects et al e ----------------------------------------------------- This message was sent using Obsidian SWiTCH web-mail.
