Agree that JS/XML are not the answer, but do we really need a new 
language?  I think Java is fine;  applets /could/ be the right answer...

Is there a decent api for binding/manipulating DOM from within an 
applet?  That's a good part of what's neeeded, IMHO, plus a better 
startup/plugin experience and a bit of sustained, decent marketing to a 
jaded developer community.
