We require our patrons to check in with their library cards to use the
computers, just to ensure their accounts are current. It also allows us to
check minors to make sure they have parental permission for internet use.

We do allow guests to use the computers if they are just visiting and don't
want to get a (free) library card. We then ask for ID just to have a name
to count as a technology user (we keep track of how many people and how many
minutes of computer use we provide). By getting a name, we can also check to
make sure they are not in our system with a billed book or overdue item & just
trying to slip in under the radar.

Subject: [ctls-l] Computer sign in question

I am wondering how many libraries have policies that require their patrons to
have a library card to use the computer?  If not, do you just require a sign in
sheet or how to do service out-of-town patrons that are just stopping by to use
the computer?

Currently, Hewitt Public Library does not require a library card to use the
computers.
