We do require a library card for people who are local (or semi-local). Out of
state, or people who are just passing through are given a guest password for
the day. We ask them to show us an ID, but we don't record their names
anywhere. As far as signup goes, we use a software package to limit people to
an hour a day and to manage the print functions. After our patrons show us
their library card we register them in the system and give them a password
which is good from then on. As noted above, visitors are given a guest password.

Hope this helps!

Subject: [ctls-l] Computer sign in question

I am wondering how many libraries have policies that require their patrons to
have a library card to use the computer? If not, do you just require a sign in
sheet or how to do service out-of-town patrons that are just stopping by to use
the computer?

Currently, Hewitt Public Library does not require a library card to use the
computers.
