By what process of psychoanalysis has Slobodan Milosevic been determined
"mad"? He's a conniving despot who thrives on exploiting fears and
prejudices of his people, but then so is most every other "leader" on the
planet. How is he any more a madman that Benny Netanyahu, except in the
cat that Netanyahu's policies of aggresive nationalism and ethnic
cleansing are tolerated, abetted, even funded by the United States?
The conflict in Kosovo was not an international matter until NATO, or
rather those controlling NATO, chose to make it so. As a sovereign state
protecting its territorial and political integrity Yugoslavia was
combating an armed, separatist movement within its borders. Such
conflicts are brutal by nature and routinely involve violence directed
against a suspect civil population by both sides. The Yugoslav actions in
Kosovo may not be pretty, but they are rational and fully within the
historical rights of s sovereign nation.
On the other hand, the NATO attack on Yugoslavia is a calculated action of
INTERNATIONAL aggression, an act of war, which has no legal justification
or sanction from the NATO or UN Charters. In essence, a collective act of
aggression by rogue states. It is this action that has broadened the
conflict and, through the massing of NATO forces in Macedonia and Bosnia,
threaens to extend conflict into those areas. This is either a policy
based on utter stupidity (entirely possible) or deliberate design.
Shouting about "stopping the madman" is a tired propagandistic cliche.
This "crisis" deserves more thoughtful analysis.
