On September 4, 1999 the Ku Klux Klan web site at www.kkk.com was
vandalized. The front page of KKK web site was replaced with a new page
that essentially made it look for the user as though the entire contents
of www.hatewatch.org were on the www.kkk.com site. Read the chronology of

**Women assume new white supremacist role**
A new role for women is emerging within the white supremacist movement,
long a male bastion, with women who once stayed home and stitched Ku Klux
Klan robes for their men now demanding leadership positions, the Southern
Poverty Law Center said Friday.The emergence of female leaders among white
supremacists scarcely marks a feminist
awakening but there is a realization that women are necessary to a
movement which has seen membership dwindling since the 1930s and '40s,
when gangs of hooded Klansmen
terrorized blacks, spokesman Mark Potok said.

**Klansmen, protesters gather to shout it out**
For about two hours yesterday afternoon, Ku Klux Klan members and their
opponents tried to outshout one another at City Hall. In the end, both
sides gave up and walked away. Other than slurs thrown from both
directions -- and a few incidents in which Columbus police used
chemical spray on anti-racism protesters who were shaking a security fence
-- the rally occurred without any reported violence or arrests.

**Northwest prosecutors give juries the final say**
In Eastern Washington and North Idaho, prosecutors say they don't hesitate
to bring charges of hate crimes and harassment based on race or religion.
"Because of the reputation picked up by the Aryan Nations and other
groups, we send out a very strong signal that we don't tolerate hate
crimes," Kootenai County Prosecutor Bill Douglas said.

**Lithuanian Nazi war crimes trial ends**
A court in Lithuania indefinitely postponed the trial of Aleksandras
Lileikis on charges of Nazi war crimes, citing the 92-year-old man's ill
health and his inability to stand trial. Lileikis, who emigrated to the
United States after World War II and lived in Massachusetts
for over 40 years, returned to the Baltic state in 1996 after a U.S. court
considered deporting him because of his alleged involvement in Nazi
atrocities.

**Aged author of hate literature jailed**
The Jews killed JFK Jr. They massacred the Branch Davidians. They
sabotaged a Swissair jetliner. A recent letter to Broward County
commissioners including these and other anti-Semitic allegations has
landed its author in jail. The reason: not its vitriolic content, but the
fact that Lloyd Shank failed to sign his angry missive.
