- MAYBE SOME SUNBLOCK 500 WOULD HELP DEPARTMENT -
Shrinking Ozone Layer Threatening Economies Down Under
Chilean officials issued an ozone alert on Oct. 9 as an "arm" of
low-ozone atmosphere passed over southern Chile, dousing the region with
extremely high levels of ultraviolet radiation. Those who ventured outside
without protection got sunburns in as little as seven minutes. As the
ozone layer shrinks, such occurrences will become more frequent in other,
more populous, areas and damage local economies and public health.
The ozone layer is a thin, stratospheric layer of gas that absorbs most of
the ultraviolet radiation (UV) the sun produces. What little UV that
normally penetrates the ozone layer can cause sunburn; prolonged
exposure can cause skin cancer. UV radiation can damage livestock and fish
and hobble the economies of several countries if higher exposure becomes
constant.
The ozone layer has been steadily thinning since monitoring began in 1985.
Nowhere has this decrease been more dramatic than over the Antarctic the
hub of global wind currents. Here an ozone "hole" forms each southern
winter, reaching its largest extent in September when colder temperatures
inhibit ozone formation. Experts in the World Meteorological Organization,
a branch of the United Nations, say that this year's ozone hole is the
deepest and largest ever, with over 50 percent depletion over an area
three times the size of the United States. Occasionally, areas of thinner
ozone spin off the main Antarctic hole; one of these passed over southern
Chile Monday.
Unlike other environmental issues, such as greenhouse effect, less
controversy regards ozone depletion; scientists can readily measure ozone
layer density and surface UV levels and observe changes from year to year.
Alleged global warming issues, however, occur over generations, making it
easy to delay decisions. In contrast to the slow pace and skepticism with
which some governments approach global warming, action on the ozone layer
has been relatively swift.
The landmark ozone treaty is the 1987 Montreal Protocol. It aims to
regulate and eventually ban chlorofluorocarbons, the primary
ozone-damaging chemical. So far over 140 countries have signed the
protocol.
But it will take decades some scientists say centuries for the ozone
layer to repair itself. That is assuming the damage stops today. But
other ozone-damaging chemicals, such as nitrous oxide
and methane, are less easy to separate from human activity. Nitrous oxide
is a byproduct of catalytic converters on standard automobiles and the
burning of jet fuel. Both modern and traditional agriculture produce huge
amounts of methane. With no acceptable substitute for jet fuel or steak
the ozone hole is likely to increase.
This is not good news if you live in lands down under. Punta Arenas,
Chile, has a population of 120,000, making it the largest city in the
danger zone. Meanwhile, Australia and New Zealand have high exposure and
the highest incidence of skin cancer in the world. While the ozone layer
will likely continue to thin globally, at the bottom of the world people
face a growing seasonal challenge. A view from Antarctica reveals that
Punta Arenas will share its UV woes with many major cities in the coming
years.
The toll on public health will be considerable. The thinning ozone layer
will affect all industries to some degree. Agriculture, fishing and
tourism will face the most severe damage. Livestock is not as vulnerable
to UV as mankind, but animals face far longer exposure times. UV slowly
unravels the DNA in plankton, reducing the food supply available for
commercially harvested fish. Tourists will avoid locations such as
Argentina or South Africa if they face a significant cancer risk.
Argentina, Australia, Chile, New Zealand and South Africa will face
problems in the years to come, especially since agriculture, fishing and
tourism are central to their economies. In New Zealand alone the
smallest and most remote of the countries affected tourism is a $4.5
billion a year industry.

- SECRET BLACK PROJECTS DEPARTMENT -
Secret Aircraft Unveiling Rumored to be Imminent
Along with the much photographed, sleek F-15 Eagles and F-16 Fighting
Falcons blasting over Edwards Air Force Base, there are beyond-Top Secret
"black aircraft" swooping like stealthy ravens above the Antelope Valley.
These planes criss-cross the dark skies of the Southwest on their way to
perform missions too secret to tell about. The black world planes wing
their way out toward remote regions of Nevada and other stations
of the southwestern states military complex, carrying a half-century's
history of Cold War mystery into the 21st century.
Recent murmurings in the black project community, along with the current
November issue of the national magazine Popular Science, indicate that
another mystery plane may materialize soon, with industry sources saying a
bird could come out of the black by Election Day.
Or, it may never happen. That is just the way it goes with black world
programs, known in Pentagon argot as Special Access Programs. Such
programs are overseen by a select few who keep a limited number of members
of Congress and their staff informed on program development in classified
briefings.
The November cover story of Popular Science depicts a black world-style
fighter-bomber nicknamed "Switchblade" by pilots because of its
switch-wing capability. The plane dubbed "Bird of Prey" by magazine
writer Steve Douglass is described as a follow-on to the FB-111 Aardvark
switch-wing fighter-bomber of Vietnam vintage that bombed Libyan strongman
Moammar Khadafy's palace in 1985.
Existence of a plane like the one described in Popular Science was denied
unequivocally by an Air Force official knowledgeable about cutting-edge
programs.
The official - with a flight test background - contended that the plane
depicted in Popular Science's speculative illustrations defies certain
engineering principles and aspects of "low observable," or stealth,
technology.
Members of the community who monitor developments in defense, however,
cite historical precedents for de-classification of covert programs during
election season, particularly by Democratic administrations.
During his election battle with the late Arizona Sen. Barry Goldwater,
former President Lyndon B. Johnson revealed the cutting edge "Blackbird"
spy plane as a means of showing his administration was not soft on
defense. A similar occurrence erupted during the campaign end game
between Ronald Reagan and former President Jimmy Carter, who lifted the
veil of black secrecy for an announcement of the development of stealth
technology aircraft.
"There certainly is a historical precedent, in a close election where you
have a Democrat with Republicans snapping at their heels," aviation writer
Bill Sweetman said Wednesday in a telephone interview.
Sweetman is author of seminal open source works on secret aircraft
programs, including "Stealth Aircraft - Secrets of Future Airpower."
Sweetman recounted how the announcement of the existence of stealth by the
Carter administration backfired politically, with Reagan forces
accusing the Democrats of revealing precious secrets to make political hay.
"The Reagan team did that very well to Carter .... What political
advantage could you gain by unveiling (now) without it backfiring?"
Sweetman said. He speculated the current administration could decide that
a technology or aircraft is mature enough to place into operational
command, so it could be unveiled the way former President George Bush
decided to when he brought the F-117 stealth fighter out of the black more
than a decade ago.
Another defense watcher remained skeptical about an election year
unveiling.
"I've been waiting for a plane to come out of the black for 10 years,"
said John Pike of the Washington D.C.-based Federation of American
Scientists. "I am still waiting. I will believe it when I see it."
Pike attributes his logic to deduction rather than inside sources. But he
said he doesn't believe any classified aircraft program has created secret
planes in sufficient numbers to deploy in squadron strength, like the
F-117 fleet at Holloman Air Force Base, N.M.
"There may be some onesies and twosies out there," Pike said. "As for an
operational deployment ... I just don't believe it."
Black plane watchers seeking the Holy Grail of secret aircraft still pine
for a "white world" view of a mysterious aircraft popularly known as
Aurora, which has mutated from a Defense Department line item notation to
a myth. If it exists, or existed, Aurora is wrapped so tight within the
cloak of secrecy that it remains in the black the same way that the F-117
stealth fighter and B-2 stealth bomber remained long hidden from view.
Such programs develop under the auspices of a kind of "shadow" Air Force,
Sweetman said.
In a recent article for International Defense Review, the author noted
that the Air Force $7.4 billion budget for classified procurement is more
than a third of the service arm's total budget. In fiscal year 2001,
Sweetman noted, the Air Force plans to spend $4.96 billion on classified
research and development.
That extraordinary amount of public funds is concealed within programs
that American taxpayers must take on faith are well-run and
well-maintained to the benefit of the security of the United States.
If it exists, Aurora remains in the black, along with a range of as many
as 150 covert programs that are approved by the Department of Defense at
the secretary level, with varying levels of congressional oversight. -

- IN DREAMS DEPARTMENT -
Study Shows Why Your Dreams Are So Weird
A study involving people with amnesia, a popular computer game and sleep
experts may help explain why dreams are so weird and so important, experts
said recently.
They said people with amnesia who played the popular computer game Tetris
dreamed about the images it invoked, but could not remember actually
playing the game. And, unlike people with normal memories, they never
really got any better at the game.
This shows that when the brain is filing away the memories it needs to
keep, it has to go through a series of steps, and dreaming is a
manifestation of one crucial step, Dr. Robert Stickgold, a psychiatrist at
Harvard Medical School in Boston, who led the study, said. Dreams are
just the body's way of clearing out the mental ''in-box'', Stickgold said.
"The trick is to move it to the file cabinet and to file it in the right
place,'' Stickgold said in a telephone interview.
"A lot of REM (rapid eye-movement) dreams, those really quirky, strange,
bizarre dreams that we have late at night, is the brain looking for ways
to cross-index. It is looking for cross references -- does this fit with
this. Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't,'' he said.
When it doesn't fit, the dream seems weird, he said. When the
cross-reference is a good one, the brain can reinforce the memory. One
way to test this is to look at people who are missing one of those vital
memory steps -- people with amnesia.
Stickgold had noticed that when he skied, he had vivid dreams about it.
"When you go downhill skiing, when you go to sleep, you can feel the
turns,'' he said. This would make a good test, he said, but added he
knew he would never get the okay to take first-timers downhill skiing for
a scientific experiment.
And then someone mentioned Tetris, a computer game that uses vivid images
of falling and rotating shapes that have to be manipulated by the player.
It, too, evokes dreams, Stickgold said. ``I play Tetris, that is all I see
going to sleep,'' he said.
Writing in the journal Science, Stickgold and colleagues said nearly
two-thirds of the 27 volunteers they asked to play Tetris had dreams about
it. Their group included five people with
amnesia, caused by disease, stroke and other accidents. Experts at the
game and first-time players were also tested.
People in both groups reported that, as they fell asleep, they dreamed
about images of blocks falling and rotating, as they do on the computer
screen when the game is in progress. They did not actually dream about
the game itself.
The amnesia patients did not remember playing the game and they did not
ever improve, unlike the volunteers with normal memory. Three of them did
report the strange dreams, however.
"What these results, especially from the amnesic's, tells us is that when
the brain puts dreams together, it does it without knowledge of and access
to memories of actual events in our life,'' Stickgold said.
"We have two different memory systems. The hippocampal codes information
on events from our lives. So when I ask you what did you have for
breakfast, you go to the hippocampus for the answer,'' he added.
"A second system is the neocortical,'' he said, referring to another area
of the brain.
"So when I ask you when we go out for breakfast 'what do you like for
breakfast?', that is a different type of question. When you go for that
general information you go to neocortex. An amnesic can tell you what they
like for breakfast. They can't tell you what they had for breakfast.''
This is because their hippocampus is damaged. The findings suggest that
the brain does not go to the hippocampus to get images for dreams, but to
the long-term, neocortical system, the researchers said.

GUEST ARTICLE DEPARTMENT -
MISCELLANEOUS COMMENTARY - By C.A. Honey
As of this date, September 17, 2000, I have spent seventy-two years trying
to understand this planet. I give up. It seems humanity in general
hasn't learned a thing in all these years.
Sixty years ago I was taught that cigarettes were dangerous to my health.
As a result I never smoked even one, but today people are suing because of
harmful effects of smoking, all the while pretending they were totally
ignorant of tobaccos harmful effects. For sixty to seventy years we have
been told tobacco is harmful but these people want us to think they were
either totally ignorant of what was going on around them or were too
stupid to understand the facts.
The politicians refuse to outlaw the growth or sale of tobacco as long as
they can "steal" billions of dollars from the various companies. They
promote tobacco to get the huge sums of money for their own pockets while
at the same time hypocritically campaign against use of tobacco by
children.
In California where I live the "do-gooders" feel they know better than
most people about what is good or bad for them. They have legislated, or
tried to legislate, their own brand of "morality" upon all others. The
unfortunate thing is that they have promoted false information, or
outright lies in some instances, so often and for so many years, that the
misinformation has assumed the status of being "factual" although it is
completely false. When this is pointed out or stated publicly, people are
shocked and refuse to believe the statements. After all, everyone "knows"
the real truth and statements to the contrary are not given any credence
at all. I'll give you one example so no doubt exists as to what I'm
talking about:
No reliable scientific evidence exists that second hand tobacco smoke is
any more dangerous that regular use of tobacco. In fact, scientific
evidence does exist showing that certain types of benefits exist with both
first and second hand tobacco use. Some people can smoke or chew tobacco
for 80 years and suffer no ill effects at all. Others suffer real
effects, which are apparently linked to tobacco. No one can prove either
way. Take your choice.
Another pet peeve of mine is those religious leaders who try to tell you
that their particular belief is the only "true" belief and if you don't
believe exactly what they tell you to believe you will surely go to
"hell." Here we have hundreds of different religious denominations (over
300 in the United States alone) each using the same Bible but having
different or opposing beliefs.
Millions of people base their religious beliefs on Jesus of the New
Testament even though no evidence exists that he ever existed at all.
Even though the New Testament wasn't a part of the scriptures until many
years after the designated time of Jesus, the writer's quote statements
supposedly made by Jesus and which are totally ignored by theologians
today.
Example: In the New Testament the disciples are quoted as asking Jesus
what is required for their salvation, asking for guidelines apparently.
Jesus replied that all the requirements were listed in the scriptures.
What does this mean?
It means that since the only scriptures at that time were books of our
present Old Testament, plus a few more books lost over time or removed by
the established religious leaders, that everything required for the
salvation of mankind was in the Old Testament. The writings of the New
Testament, when it was finally compiled, was not a necessary part of the
"plan."
The fact that at least 13 "crucified saviors" are found in ancient
history, going back 5,000 years or more, is completely ignored. Most
people are not even aware these records exist. The fact that such records
do exist proves that the "story" was commonly repeated over centuries and
discredits the New Testament story completely.
After all, Caesar and Alexander the Great, as well as numerous others
throughout history, were commonly reported to be born of "virgins" and to
be "sons of God." The belief was so common thousands of years ago that no
one thought it unusual when each reported "god" or "son of god" was said
to be born of a virgin.
To change the subject, what is wrong with so-called journalists or
reporters today? Anything they can't explain, they ignore. They in
effect stick their heads in the sand like an emu or ostrich and think that
solves their problem. Let me give you an example of what I mean by that:
A few years ago crop circles began to appear overnight in England and
spread out all over Europe, now reaching into many other areas of the
world.
The skeptics came up with two bumbling old men who proceeded to
demonstrate how "they had created the crop circles." They demonstrated
their "technique" to the world and produced some of the sorriest looking
and crude crop circles I've ever seen. The press accepted their story as
the complete answer to all crop circles. At the same time the press
conveniently ignored any fact that didn't fit their ideas or their
reports.
They ignored the fact that some crop circles were over 300 feet long,
consisted of hundreds of small circles and dozens of complex symbols and
had appeared overnight less that a mile from many people who had gathered
hoping to witness the creation of the phenomena. They ignored the fact
that the complex circles could not have been created by an army of men,
let alone the two men claiming credit, and without a trace of any man or
manmade track into the area of the crop circle.
All evidence pointed to the fact that the circles had to be created from
the air and the plants were shaped by force fields which didn't break the
stalks, as would have been the case if the grain was physically forced to
the ground as claimed by the two men.
Since it has become apparent that scientists cannot explain the origin or
purpose of the crop circles, or who or what is creating them, the whole
subject is ignored. Do the journalists print the photographs of the
unbelievably complex circles? Of course not, because they can't explain
them away.
Think of this: Most people refuse to believe UFO's exist because they've
never seen one with their own eyes. The crop circle mystery is just as
great, but anyone who wishes can see them first hand or look at hundreds
of photos taken from the air by legitimate photographers. No question
exists about the crop circle mystery, yet again; the press ignores the
evidence. Why?
Is it because just one of the complex crop circles that couldn't be
explained could not be tolerated by the powers that be, since they are
afraid to admit that something more powerful than themselves might
actually exist, something beyond their control?
Here is another interesting fact: Six thousand years ago Sumerian
scientists wrote detailed descriptions of our solar system and described
all of our presently known planets, plus one more we still haven't
discovered. They wrote detailed descriptions of how our solar system
originated and described our outer planets perfectly, as we know them
today, including composition and color.
Yet our scientists today, ignorantly believing that the ancient
astronomers knew of only five planets, still speculate and wonder why the
Sumerians had more that one name for the same planet. Yet if the ancient
writings are taken at face value, they not only knew more about Pluto,
Uranus and Neptune, for example, than we do today. Also they accurately
wrote about every major space discovery we have found in our modern space
exploration. How could they have known about the color and composition of
these outer planets so many thousands of years ago?
If we believe their own writings then we have the answer to many of
today's mysteries. They state that the information was given to them by
travelers from a presently undiscovered planet that they called "NIBIRU"
and later renamed "MARDUK."
They tell us, in the original documents that were later condensed into
portions of our Bible, that these travelers (who they name as Anunnaki or
Nefilim), gave them all the scientific information they passed on to us,
plus the astounding information that they created humans in their
laboratories through genetic manipulation. Humanity was created to
provide workers for the Nefilim, to relieve them from doing their own
manual labor.
Should we accept this ancient claim as factual? I say yes, because of the
extremely accurate and advanced astronomical as well as other scientific
claims that we have discovered to be true as a result of our space
exploration.
All evidence leads us to the conclusion that they could not have known the
information unless they were given it exactly as they claimed, by advanced
space travelers from the planet Nibiru. They certainly didn't have
telescopes or other means to determine the information themselves.
I should mention at this point that evidence exists that optical aids,
similar to our telescopes, existed several hundred years prior to our
claims of their actual invention date in history. This was only a few
hundred years earlier than we thought, a certainly not thousands of years
earlier that that.
Even more fantastic than their vast quantities of astronomical
information, is their detailed descriptions of how the Nefilim, using
genetics and "gene splicing" in their laboratories, created mankind
(Neanderthal and later Cro-Magnon). Their writings, condensed in the
biblical Genesis, quotes the Nefilim as saying, "Let us make man in our
image, after our likeness..." (Genesis 1:26) The ancient original makes
it very plain that the word in the verse quoted, "our," is addressed by
the Nefilim leader to a group of his followers.
Some religious leaders today preach that "GOD" is a family not an
individual. That is because they recognize that the original biblical
manuscript makes it plain that "God was not an individual supernatural
person.
Now to another problem. Actually this is a problem that repeats itself
over and over in various parts of our world and in nearly every country.
The Problem: Huge stone monuments and buildings that cannot be duplicated
today by any technology we possess. Examples can be found in the stone
walls of Sacsahuaman above Cuzco in Peru, the Baalbek ruins in Lebanon, or
the Great Pyramid of Egypt, just to name a few.
The huge stone monuments of Baalbek exist today as they did thousands of
years ago. No equipment on Earth today can even lift many of the stone
blocks in the walls of Baalbek. Example: Some of the huge granite blocks
are over 31 feet in length, thirteen feet in height and twelve feet thick.
Each such block of stone represents about 5,000 cubic feet of granite and
weighs more than 500 tons. In one wall of the Baalbek Terraces are three
stones, perfectly shaped and perfectly fitted, each over 60 feet in
length, sides of 14 and 12 feet; each containing over 10,000 cubic feet of
granite and weighing over 1,000 tons. These stones were lifted over twelve
feet from the base of the wall and were installed by who knows what.
One stone still lies on the ground at the nearby quarry. It is over 69
feet long, has a girth of 14 by 16 feet and weighs well over 1,200 tons.
Perfectly shaped, it still has a thin line connecting it to the huge
granite mountain from which it was carved. No machinery exists today that
can even begin to handle such huge dimensions or weight. No scientific
theory even exists which can explain how these huge buildings or walls
were designed and built.
