If we knew more about the deputy's wounds we would know more about who shot him. If the bullets went through a kevlar vest then we could assume that he was shot with a high power weapon like a rifle/assult weapon. Hand guns usually do not have the power to penetrate a kevlar vest. If he was shot at the door or close to it, then there is a possiblity that he could have been shot by friendly fire. Again, the location of the wounds on his body would be very telling. Was he shot in the back, in the side, or in the front? Audio recording could tell us a lot. Ammo that is cooking off sounds different from ammo that is being fired from a weapon. An audio recording could also give us an idea as to just how much actual weapons fire there was.
