this is debatable, but here goes: i'm leaning towards the idea that a/v is one 
area where commercial may trump open source, only because a/v is so often a 
race against time & quantity, which commercial groups may have a bigger 
interest in achieving.

i wouldn't use anything else in addition to avg, since, like lee said, avg 
works so dang well.
