> Computers and Things, Inc. > 112 First Street (corner of Elm), Old Monroe, Missouri 63369 > > For information contact Fred Smith by calling 636-661-5508 This Saturday the project that OLMOLUG will be working on is to develop a relational database for use by the seriously overworked Katrina disaster relief office staff at Trinity Evangelical Free Church of Covington, LA. Some of you may know that Trinity is being supported by Fred Smith, proprietor of Computers & Things (our host for OLMOLUG) by way of his blog <http://www.pcbblog.com/> and Grace Community Chapel of St. Peters, MO. A previous volunteer gave up trying to remotely develop an MS Access database for Trinity Church. The request that they have on their website calls for an on site volunteer to develop a useful package: * 1 person for MS Access data base set-up/ administration A 1-2 week commitment is needed for this position. Will MS Access be the only database used? Hopefully not. It depends on us getting enough knowledgeable and skilled folks to hammer together something fully functional and useful to the staff working in Louisiana. Regardless of what we build, it MUST be fully transferable to MS Access. As for myself, I'm thinking that a combination of the new OpenOffice.org version 2 beta database using it's form building features for data input screens and other abilities would work. We hope to build everything in OpenOffice (it would be no fun to just build it in MS Access). The results must then work in MS Access, because the staff workers are just not capable of trying anything beyond their current experience level. The staff are overworked and stressed daily with the misery and horror stories of people seeking their help. Many of the staff are working 16 to 18 hours a day for no pay under very uncomfortable conditions. Development will revolve around the data collected on their Response Team Application form ( which can be pulled down from the OLMOLUG web site <http://www.olmolug.org> ) and another Work Request form that we have not yet received. Scheduling capabilities for matching the work projects with the volunteer teams is also needed. We also hope to have additional information from a volunteer that was previously helping in Louisiana. We desperately need someone with skilled MS Access experience so that we can be certain that what we build can be transfered to MS Access. We will have a copy of MS Access on hand for testing. Well, we will need folk with the right mix of Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and EXPERIENCE to put everything together in a rapid session. That does not preclude those that want to learn. Asking questions is part of the design and building process. So, see you at the Ol'MO'LUG meeting this Saturday! stan r. _______________________________________________ CWE-LUG mailing list [email protected] http://www.cwelug.org/ http://www.cwelug.org/archives/ http://www.cwelug.org/mailinglist/
