That's great news.  By default 3.7 used the 2.4 kernel.  IIRC, you  
can specify the 2.6 kernel with "knoppix26"  So, to bring up Knoppix  
3.7 using the 2.6 kernel and the fbdev driver at 800x600, try this:

   boot: knoppix26 xmodule=fbdev vga=788

Let us know if that works for you.  Also, I'll bring a copy of the  
4.0.2 CD to the next meeting.

Maybe some of the Ubuntu folks here might have a hint of what's  
happening.

Again, bring your laptop to the next CWE-LUG meeting and we'll play  
around with Knoppix and Ubuntu live.
