Maybe for the untrained.  However, I would much rather be shot than slashed 
by an experienced knife user.   The damage done by a sharp knife, used 
effectively, is very tough to repair before the victim bleeds out.  Surely, a 
head shot is fatal, but don't count on your knife thug to just stab you;  
they could disembowel you very quickly

Knives don't have to be reloaded.  One of my least favourite
memories was the slide show of an autopsy of a prostitute who
had been stabbed to death.  She had been stabbed about 70 times,
a wound to her side that punctured her heart was the fatal one.
