For those not aware many of the scientists in Unit 731
were never prosecuted for their war crimes. In fact
many of them returned to civilian life and scientific
research after the war.
It was later admitted by the Americans that several had
either been given jobs in or were external contractors
to the American military chemical and biological research
establishment at Fort Detricht (did I spell that right)
in Maryland - much to the embarassment of the Americans
many years later.
Some of you might also be aware of the investigations
going on into the British military's chemical and
biological weapons facility at Porton Down. It seems
several people may have been deliberately killed in
secret experiments into nerve gases and other agents
in the 1950's and 1960's an dthis is the centre of
police investigations.
