>When the subject came up here some time ago, a#
correspondent reminded me of the book "The Jungle Is
Neutral" by, I think, Spencer Chapman. It doesn't seem
to be in print any longer, but if you come across a
copy then from memory of my boyhood reading, I do
recommend it.<

I have a copy of this in paperback and it is vaery good. If anyone wants to
read it, I'll post it to them; or they can collect it (or a few sticks of
tin) on the way to the game fair at Blenheim Palace next weekend - it's just
up the road from me......

>It occurs to me that many of the actors in the early
war movies, like Audie Murphy, must have been veterans
of the campaigns they were re-enacting. Surely there is
a story or two in this?<

Audie Murphy did help win the war, like James Stewart. There was a film made
about Audie Murphy starring himself just after WWII showing how he won his
decorations. I don't recall seeing Jimmy Stewart in any films about the
USAAF, but then I'm not that old....

I'm sure there must have been many others - the Goons spring to mind, as
portrayers of forces experience : )
