Well James, you may think that but I certainly don't. Chris
Jacobs and I went to see our MP, Sir Ralph Howell (who has
now been replaced by the very supportive David Prior)almost
immediately after Dunblane before Labour had jumped on the
bandwagon. You see we never believed in this dignified
silence crap. He said:
You should prepare yourself for swingeing new restictions.
I replied:
You mean it was not our fault, it will do no good but the
shooters are in for a good kicking anyway?
And his answer was:
You could put it that way, yes.
Sorry James but you can't count on the Tories. I would say
that, faced with a choice of candidates that are all anti,
the Tory is probably the least worst choice but I go with
Steve. Pick your candidate and then vote for him regardless
of party.
Incidentally Sir Ralph was very good to us when we lobbied
him in Westminster and he did vote against the bill and he
was high Tory to his backbone. In his case, and given the
circumstances that he was not standing again, I think
talking to him did some good. Chris was there, if he is
still reading the list, what does he think?
