As Steve says, he takes no editorial position on this. However, I
shall have nothing to do with any proposal promoted by Neil
Francis.

>From his many written communications, some of which we have
published, I conclude that Neil is an anti-fieldsports campaigner
whose objective is to undermine and weaken the United Kingdom's
two largest and most effective shooting and fieldsports
organisations.

Neil seems to have a particular grudge against John Swift, under
whose leadership BASC has added tens of thousands to its
membership. Gradually - perhaps too slowly for some, too quickly
for others - John Swift has changed BASC from the sleepy
duck-hunters' club of the 1980s into a mass membership
association which represents and safeguards the interests of all
who enjoy shooting sports.

Arguably, there may have been a few misjudgements over the years
- I happen to think the recent fracas with the gamekeepers'
association over "national pigeon day" was poorly managed - but
John Swift's BASC has shown an encouraging capacity to learn from
such incidents. John is highly respected by his counterparts in other
mainstream shooting organisations, including the NRA of America.

As for Neil Francis, I attach below a few quotes which indicate
where he stands on shooting and fieldsports:

Rgds, Peter.
