I opened the tcltk tarball from the (local copy) of my usual cygwin mirror and noticed tcl84.dll. However, when I selected tcltk for re-install, nothing much happened (presumably, setup.exe thought that the version which was already installed was newer than Cygwin's version).
Fortunately I'd backed up my entire partition last Friday (i.e. just before installing QT4) so next, I looked at the backup and quickly found that both tcl84.dll and cygtcl8.4.dll had been on my system, last Friday. About 3 DLL's were missing so all I could do was copy them back to my /bin/ folder. Thankfully, gdb is now working again. In all honesty, I can't categorically blame cygwin-ports for this mess. I had quite a bit of trouble installig QT4 and I'd already tried installing it from several places before getting it from cygwin-ports. What worries me though is that I've recently got into the habit of selecting 'Keep' (in setup.exe) when installing any cygwin related software. Until about a month ago I never used to do this and I was forever losing packages while others were getting installed. Since I've been selecting 'Keep' this problem has reduced dramatically but clearly, it still isn't bullet-proof... :-( John ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.Net email is sponsored by the Moblin Your Move Developer's challenge Build the coolest Linux based applications with Moblin SDK & win great prizes Grand prize is a trip for two to an Open Source event anywhere in the world http://moblin-contest.org/redirect.php?banner_id=100&url=/ _______________________________________________ Cygwin-ports-general mailing list [email protected] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/cygwin-ports-general
