Hi, finally I found this site here after DAYS of fiddling with gtk2+ and pango to get rhythmbox working here. (This is my aim)
gtk2+ was from Gerrit Haase, 2005, so it was much too old to operate with, same with other packages. gp dot familiehaase dot de? "Mailbox unavaiable" error. So what could I do? Pray? ;) So I went here, checked for latest setup.exe, and did the required hackery ... er ... preparations. But that I would need 2 hours to add some packages, this is what I did NOT know about!! Simply: setup.exe was not made for cygwin-ports. Take GTK+ as an example. 2.6.10 is the last official version. This thing has managed to REINSTALL 2.6.10 over three times!!! Just because I did not know that I won't accept a cygwin-port-package as a default. setup.exe will show: Current = 2.8.something New = 2.6.10! You know what that means, don't you? You have to go through the WHOLE list of packages and look whether the latest official cygwin package is not set to $VERSION_NUMBER. In other words, current setup.exe will NOT set a properly installed GTK+ 2.8.x to "Keep"!! So you have only one way to circumvent this: MANUALLY rechange everything showing old version numbers to "Keep". Otherwise ... crystal-clear ... the next "Next" button click will invoke the reinstallation of 2.6.10! This might explain why I needed 10 times as much time to properly install everything. Lastly: Once you use setup with the -X flag, you ALWAYS have to use it this way! For if you don't cygwin will always think it has to download some "recent" packages! (which, obviously, are way older than the cygwin-ports) The only way out I think is a setup.exe build _specially_ for cygwin-ports. Everything else is a pain at long sight. IMHO.
