Over the last few months, much progress has been made towards resolving
the overlapping packages in Ports. Completely resolving these
differences will allow for a much simpler installation procedure, which
I think will be welcomed by all.

Here is a status report of the remaining overlaps:

* a2ps
Distro version is old, linked against libintl2, and does not run[1].
Currently orphaned.

* cmake
Upstream still insists on defining WIN32 on Cygwin[2], which leads to
incorrect builds for many packages. Upstream developer also controls
the distro version, so this won't be resolved without convincing
upstream to accept my patches[3], or forcing an ITA.

* guile
Last pinged for update on 27 September; maintainer is inactive.

* nano
Pinged several times for update; maintainer has been inactive, but
recently updated several of his other packages.

* qt4
Ports version includes support for iODBC, MySQL, and FreeTDS, none of
which are yet in the distro. I suppose I'll have to ITP these as well.

* Tcl/Tk
Distro version is 8.4 Win32/GDI, Ports is 8.5 *NIX/X11. Transition has
been agreed to in principle, but no implementation plan in place.
Affected distro packages are: expect, gdb, ocaml (labltk), python
(tkinter), ruby, tcl3270, tcl-brlapi, tcl-db*, tcl-ming, WordNet.

* xpdf
Conflicts in part with poppler, which will require an ITP for openjpeg.
