Your successful build of VTK debunks their claims that not defining
WIN32 will "break" their other products; all it does is build according
to *our* expectations of Cygwin instead of theirs. How do you propose
to proceed?

Agreed. I admit my patience is running thin with this situation; while
some progress has been made on accepting my patches, the core issue of
(not) defining WIN32 has moved nowhere over nine months.

As we have no central distro source repository (unlike other distros), I
cannot say for sure, but I suspect you are correct. I have approx. 140
source packages which use cmake in Ports git. Only one (libproxy) is in
the distro; it previously used autotools, and I needed to update it even
after it switched to cmake. Otherwise, I have hesitated to add others
for this very reason.
