the two issues i'm aware of:

42                             assert ditem not in visited

this assertion is getting hit.

a third. i have pdb open and this line shows:

this is a data snippet from its index tree. the array is [type,
locator_dict, offset_into_locator, size] . the size being zero is a
bug.

so, three issues. the second surprised me; my last work in progress
when my experiences were figuring out how to stop me from doing it.
not remembered well.

i think it could be nice to look at the data and verify it's correct.
that task has clear subparts i could repeat to improve my skill with.
