Get real. Look at the pictures. It's questionable that it can
withstand a few pounds of Semtex strapped to one of the supports.
(And if one quibbles about the blast characteristics of Semtex in
cutting concrete, use a higher velocity explosive designed for
cutting concrete. Or just take out the superstructure. Won't take
much.)
This whole debate about what type of .50 cal or .308 rifles they
should have is just plain absurd. I know Ryan Lackey is a weapons
buff, and we've had some fun discussions of the merits of various
kinds of weapons in the past. But I never thought there would be a
serious proposal to acquire weapons for fending off TLAs, LEOs, NGAs,
commandos, and fatwah soldiers.
When a data haven is a 20 foot by 40 foot platform in the coastal
waters of Britain, talking about getting a Barrett .50 BMG or
whatever is just plain pointless.
As a plot element in an absurdist novel, a la Stephenson, it's cute.
As a serious venture, it's still absurdist.
