That is, all *legit* research is *obviously* independent of the money,
because truth is objective.  Objective research can't be swayed by 
the motivations of the researchers.  In the best case, it smacks you
right in the forehead.

The *abuse* of the term "independent" is *based* on this.  Surely you
know this.
