Tammy, did your post ever bring back memories! Picture it: young Jake
(probably less than a year old), his loving mama who at the time refused to
go anywhere without him, and a parade. Jake acts nervous at first, but it's
his first parade so I understand and soothe him. Then the high school band
with its drums and trombones and what-have-you comes within earshot. My
little puppy is terrified! And he drags my ass for half a city block, up an
embankment, and into some bushes at the side of a building. Through
pavement, grass, and finally mud, we go together, and end up cowering under
the hedge, Jake looking at me then as if to say, "Do you think we're safe
here??" I live in a tiny town and within an hour the news was out. People
still talk of it.
Needless to say, Jakester doesn't *do* parades, fireworks, or even noisy
crowds anymore. He's hell-on-wheels when a stranger is on the porch, but
thunder or fireworks or even high winds will have him pacing and trembling
and trying to crawl in my lap!
