Ruby,
Crystal is right - I think we all do the veggie meal a little different.
Many of us on the BARFDanes list have very picky eaters (Hoss, in
particular) who won't eat their veggies. Some grind the veggies up, mix
them with hamburger or turkey burger and freeze them in meal size patties,
then thaw when they are to be fed. Others add ground raw (green) tripe for
those especially picky eaters...haven't tried that one yet, but have found a
great supplier of BARF foods here in Ohio (yep, you heard right, there's a
company that makes various meat products including raw bones specifically
for people who feed BARF! I have the web addy if anyone is interested -
they do ship most things.). For some reason, it seems dogs just can't
resist green tripe - it's particularly stinky, probably why they like it so
much, but it's also very disgusting to us...
Since I can't get Hoss to eat veggies at all, I make soup, adding potatoes,
sweet potatoes, lots of green veggies, garlic, chicken broth, small pieces
of raw chicken or hamburger, rice, vitamin C, flax seed oil, kelp and
Prozyme. He WILL eat it that way, just will absolutely not touch it raw.
Samson and Pooh both fight over raw carrots, and I don't typically notice
them in their stools, either. I make a huge pot of my puppy soup about
twice a week and it feeds 2 meals.
Basically, you do whatever your dog will eat...I have 2 that will eat
absolutely anything and one that will eat his chickies and cottage cheese
and nothing else!
I truly feel it's one of those "don't sweat the small stuff" issues. Do
whatever works for you, just make sure they're getting a good balance of
stuff. And if they turn up their noses at the ground veggies right away,
try starting with veggie baby food. It will get them used to the flavors...
I don't think adding it to each meal is a problem at all...they're probably
getting a very well rounded variety of foods - which is the best for them.
