I agree with you for the statically-linked binary, for all the distro
whith no darcs package.
However, it seems difficult to not be able to install darcs on mandriva:
it is packaged for mandriva since LE2005 (aka 10.2), and is even on the
cdroms/dvdrom with mandriva 2006 !
Think to add contrib in your media when you install a mandriva :-)

Hello,
Thanks for all the help, showing me how branches work. I've learned a
lot about Darcs the last few days.
The following is not a question, but a suggestion. It would be good to
provide a statically-linked Darcs binary that can be expected to work on
any GNU/Linux computer.
The other day I was telling a friend about Darcs. She thought it sounded
great, and wanted to use it on her own projects. But alas, we were
unable to install Darcs on her Mandriva box.
Difficulty installing Darcs is a bigger impediment than it might look at
first. Suppose I have a 5-person team and *one* of us can't install
Darcs. Then we just can't use Darcs at all. If one could get a single
binary with everything statically compiled, dependency problems would
not be a showstopper, just a minor inconvenience.
Cheers,
Daniel.
