Don't worry, there are plans to implement a full fledged print mode in 
darktable. But that is 1) a big task and 2) needs developers who actually own 
a printer and can spend the money to waste quite some ink and paper.

Using Lua for that is merely a hack and something that *can* be done, not 
necessarily the best solution.
