The original subject was about being able to *not* use the proprietary
drivers for AMD, but just a few libraries extracted from the package.

It worked like a charm for me on the latest Ubuntu: open source drivers on
the latest kernel 4.11 RC!

Nvidia doesn't even support this kernel right now afaik.

My $150 AMD RX 460 4GB seems to be by far the best value when you're
building a machine for doing image work in opencl, so as long as the new
cards are well supported, I can't see myself buying the doubly expensive
nvidia cards (the dark table benchmarks for the 1060 show it only being
marginally faster for double the price)
