I don't agree.
I have used the open source AMD driver (AMD RX460) with darktable and
openSuse Tumbleweed with kernel 4.12.x, Kubuntu with kernel 4.10 and
Fedora 25.
The proprietary amdgpu-pro supplies openCL which improves performance in
darktable, tested with Kubuntu.
