It appears to me that people are not aware of the 'session-options' in the darktable-preferences. This allows images to be directly imported into the preferred location either directly from the camera or sd card.

I “Imported” 179 files from my SD card to my RAID, and added them to the DT database, by using the «Import» module of DT. So, yes, DT DOES move files from one's SD card, renames them, and adds them to your library, with «import».

    dt does not provide for moving files not already in the database. 
    But one
    could back-door the process and move files by importiing to the
    database
    from camera/sdcard/..., and THEN moving the files within dt. This is
    definitely a round-about method which would be very inefficient.

    BUT dt cannot move files it does not contain within it's db. It must
    first "import" the files.  And "import" does not entail moving files.

    and I do realize dt utilizes gphoto.
