Importing and exporting your settings/presets used in a
album/film-roll/etc. selection would make it easier to move processing
between darktable versions or computer systems (from home to work i.e.) and
allow moving the preset processing environment with the data. Then again
any profile changed, added in the darktable environment would not be moved
(the clean install issue).
Anyone running a decent backup system (as one should) should not have to
worry about losing the database. Sql-lite is clear text and easily
backupped (even easily differentially backupped) . Folders with sidecar
files can be removed from darktable an reimported from a different
location. Most decent backup systems allow one to revert to an older disk
snapshot.
