If you switch it off, the histogram must look odd. Possibly the base curve in Darktable is not perfectly suited for your camera. I observe something like that for mine. An improper base curve can enhance saturation of darker areas. I was able to get a base curve closer to the manufacturer's by analysing RAW+JPEG pairs.
