Which kind of JPEG would be useful? I shoot in RAW only, so I have no
'ordinary' JPEG straight from the camera; I'd have to create it, unless the
embedded JPEG thumbnail is sufficient.

As it is, the base curve for my camera (Canon 7D) seems to be completely
wrong, and is unusable in most cases. If I open a RAW picture in Digikam
edit mode, I get a much more 'normal' picture, that is good start for
working upon; with Darktable, the picture looks so wrong I cannot even
imagine what I can do with it!

PS: I don't know how you do that, but unlike other mailing-list users, I
get the right sendee (mailing-list) when I use the 'Answer' button;
usually, I have to remember to replace the sender email by the
mailing-list's.
