I used to initially also cull  images in gthumb etc. before even loading them 
into dt, just to avoid loading stuff into the database and then immediately 
delete them.

But these days, now it is so easy to do within the light table,  I've abandoned 
this practice and just review and delete them within lt.  Simplicity usually 
rules :-)

Yes, and it could be solved with an option to apply ratings to all the grouped 
images. I tried to create a LUA extension but failed.

I, myself, use gthumb to cull images, and a bunch of badly written scripts...
