Certainly, here's what I use. YMMV and others may have different approaches. I'm currently running Xubuntu 14.04 LTS. > * What monitor do you use? Dell UltraSharp in whatever size you like/can afford. Good bang for your buck for a decent IPS panel. Non-glossy screen and the 24" and 27" do 12-bit color I believe. You can get more accurate monitors if you've got the money but I've used these on-and-off professionally and they've served me well. > * What graphics card do you use, and do you use it with a FOSS > graphics driver? AFAIK OpenCL pretty much binds me to a > proprietary driver — right? GTX 970. Overkill photo work but I also do some other GPU heavy tasks. I have the proprietary driver and OpenCL working, I don't think there's away around that. > * What colorimeter/photometer do you use? And how does it play with > Linux? ColorMunki or ColorMunki Display. Again, not the highest end but it'll get you down the road. Works with DispCal GUI/Argyll CMS in Linux. No need to dual boot for that. I also have a ColorChecker Passport that will apparently work with Argyll but I've not tried it yet. I've been lazy and just duck out to my Mac with the Xrite software to make the profiles. > * Would you buy them again? If not, then why, and what would you go > for instead? Yup, unless I had a larger budget. I've used these tools in a professional workflow and had zero problems with getting things done. > * Do you have to use non-FOSS software in certain aspects of your > workflow? (Maybe MS-Windows on a VirtualBox to get the ICC > profile from the calibration tool?) The aforementioned Mac. I still have the usual Adobe suspects installed on it (older pre-CC versions) along with Darktable. I use the Nik Plugin suite or Photoshop on occasion. I also maintain my legacy Lightroom catalogs there as I couldn't get all of my adjustments to import into Darktable as they should. Currently working on exporting TIFFs of my final edits from my old LR catalogs. I've been (slowly) writing about my switchover. Here are a couple of posts about my hardware: http://leanderhutton.com/blog/2015/04/linux-photography-i-the-great-experiment/ http://leanderhutton.com/blog/2015/04/linux-photography-ii-profiling-and-calibrating/ Hope that helps!
