Long time no speak. Hope you're well and glad to see you're still using DP.

I have to confess that, in the twenty or so years I've been using DP, I've never used a ::J field, always having used ::I. I actually had to take a look in Help to find out the difference. Having done that, your question does seem to make some sense. ::J sets the field to increment at create, whereas ::I sets it to increment at save.

So, if you have used a ::J field and have not removed the formula which was originally there, then the field will increment when the record is created, but will presumably then be recalculated by the formula. This will effectively remove the auto-increment you are seeking. Of course, if the formula uses the value in the field then that value will affect the calculated value.

If you have left the formula there, try removing it, or just setting the field to not calculate at all.
