Gentlemen,

How is this source tree (http://source.mvista.com/git/linux-davinci-2.6.git)
related to that kernel provided by MV in its distribution?

Am I right that http://source.mvista.com/git/linux-davinci-2.6.git is the
main kernel branch related to davinci development? Does MV contribute to
this branch?

There is _no_ davinci-spi driver available in -davinci-git tree as of
this writing. But you can find the SPI subsystem and example drivers
to begin with in drivers/spi directory.
