Perl 5.8.1 release candidate 4 is now available for testing
Installed 5.8.1 on MacOS X 10.2.6 using the Apple-provided CC (cc (GCC) 3.1 20020420 (prerelease)). Got a lot of stuff, including DBI, installed OK with CPAN -- minor problems getting CPANPLUS built, related to the curses library (not yet resolved). Bundle::DBI can't locate DBI::Shell - relatively minor.
Also installed on Sun Sparc running Solaris 8, using GCC 3.3. Not yet gotten anything extra installed - lack of time. Basic compilation etc went without a glitch.
Both these were unthreaded 32-bit Perl.
