Failed in what way? If the installer correctly identified the bootstrap
partition location then I don't think it's due to (3). If it falls over
without a good error message during the "Probing for other operating
systems" step, that was an os-prober bug and has been fixed in os-prober
0.07.

Using yesterday's build of the netinst CD gives me the following error at the yaboot install step (last lines of syslog) :
