an even simpler version seems to be to write a MANIFEST.in (or prepend an existing version of MANIFEST.in) withgraft . prune .git prune debian This removes the need to parse them manually.
That only sounds appropriate for a clean tree.So you'll have to be sure that a build doesn't happen in a dirty tree, which is something that will happen when 2 Python versions are supported in Debian.
