Our build would then use a generated egg-info/SOURCES.txt which is not a source file as we understand it ("preferred form to change"), therefore I don't think relying on it is policy conform.
If it is a bug to use upstream-provided cython-generated files, why it is not a bug to use upstream-provided setptools_scm generated files?
