I've restarted hal and even rebooted the system without any
improvement.
How to see if the addon is loaded or not?

I've frozen hal/nut-hal-drivers with:
hal/libhal1 0.5.10+git20080301-1
nut-hal-drivers 2.2.1-1

This is the latest working configuration for me.

... waiting for the upcoming 2.2.2 [tm]

Jean-Luc
