2 ways:
- ps -efl | grep nut and you should the the hald-addon-usbhid-ups loaded
- using hal-device-manager, you should see the battery properties on
your USB device.

yep, you might have seen that:
- 2.2.1 has had some problems and regressions with usbhid-ups (and so
the HAL addon too)
- 2.2.2 will come with a good bunch of enhancements on the HAL
