Yes, but where is the info program that looks in both directories?
In the 'info' package. Start info and hit C-h, and in the help is:
The current search path is:
"/usr/info:/usr/local/info:/usr/info:/usr/local/lib/info:/usr/lib/info:/usr/loca
l/gnu/info:/usr/local/gnu/lib/info:/usr/gnu/info:/usr/gnu/lib/info:/opt/gnu/info
:/usr/share/info:/usr/share/lib/info:/usr/local/share/info:/usr/local/share/lib/
info:/usr/gnu/lib/emacs/info:/usr/local/gnu/lib/emacs/info:/usr/local/lib/emacs/
info:/usr/local/emacs/info:."
I would guess /usr/share/info would simply appear earlier in the search
path if it were configured with "--infodir=/usr/share/info".
